A ‘coastal coffer of
memories’ this sculpture embodies many childhood references of a
predominantly coastal upbringing, and indeed incorporates material
from that time, and its form alludes to the fact that these memories
are carried with one throughout life.
……… borne on
two stout bearers that are both its support and its guardians. The
beacons symbolise the speed of the passage of time whilst standing
as a warning to mariners (and others) of unforeseen dangers. The
sedan-like coffer offers only a protected glimpse of the held
within........

………open doors
reveal layers of images that elude to man made coastal structures
and their association with the natural forces of the sea. Memories
and elusions to past times are contained within the images…….all is
still now in this protected cocoon, yet the fragility of the
structure makes us aware of the uncertain nature of the future.
A planked
cabinet constructed from reclaimed flooring timbers with pivot
hinged doors ; naturally finished. A planked roof covered in cotton
rag and painted with acrylic. The interior, mixed media, wood,
metal, stone, cord etc. The whole supported on terracotta towers
that rest on solid Douglas fir piers, surrounded by beach
pebbles.
