.Arum lilies

various sizes and substrates

A colour montage of Arum Lilies and foliage abstracted into an Art Deco stylised form. The strong movement of the leaves contrasts with the still serenity of the waxy flowers. The dark black and grey background veneers combine with the foliage creating depth and cohesion to the composition.

Medium: Marquetry using 10 different veneers including bolivar, birdseye, ripple anegre and koto.

Design and process are very contemporary. Laser cut, dyed and natural veneers are assembled, reverso, onto clear self-adhesive film before being bonded to the chosen substrate to then be sanded, polished and assembled onto the form or substrate selected.

Created by like a 'jigsaw puzzle' this image contains approx 200 individually cut pieces of dyed and natural wood veneers. The veneers are carefully selected from standard ranges produced in Italy and are chosen for their particular suitability of grain and shade that best represents the natural form I want to portray.
