In France, on
the Gironde and the Loire estuaries, the marshy ground makes it
necessary to build huts on stilts where men who come to fish might
be tempted to camp out, as in a tent.

These frail
improvised structures convey a great sense of mankind’s
vulnerability to the natural elements........

yet he creates
reassuring homely comforts high on stilts above a restless sea.
Cocooned in his world, absorbed in his task and oblivious of his
vulnerability.........a true metaphor for life !
Created from
found wood, withies from the Somerset levels and hedgerow twigs
these structures reflect the frailty of the prototypes they seek to
portray. The ladders are hand-soldered wire painted with
acrylic paint.
